The Green Climate Fund (GCF)—a critical element of the historic Paris Agreement—is the world’s largest climate fund mandated to support low-emission, climate-resilient development pathways. As an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), GCF contributes to the goal of keeping an average global temperature rise well below two degrees Celsius.

The Fund seeks to engage the Application Development Consultant to join its team at the headquarters in Songdo, Republic of Korea, for an initial 240 days over a 12-month period.

Role

The consultant will provide operational support to the ICT Software Development team within the Office of Administrative Services. In this assignment, the consultant will assist in the development of internal platforms of the Fund; they will be exposed to different areas of development work pertaining to AI-related software development, including but not limited to frontend, backend, API management, UI/UX development, and CI/CD pipelines configuration.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Principal Software Architect within the ICT Software Development team, the consultant is expected to:

a) Develop and maintain AI functionality for internal web applications managed by the team.
b) Assist with research of software libraries, frameworks, and solutions to ongoing projects.
c) Implement enhancement requests by the different business units.
d) Write documentation and perform testing of new and existing applications and features.
e) Support the Development Team in other administrative work as required.

Required experience and qualifications

• 3+ years of total working experience and 2+ years of experience developing AI/ML-based solutions;
• Experience utilizing modern software development tools (Github, VSCode) and Cloud platform environments (Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services);
• Experience with CI/CD Deployment pipelines (Azure Devops, Github Actions);
• Proficiency in the Python programming language and AI-related libraries (TensorFlow, SciPy);
• Experience with Microsoft Teams bot development will be a plus;
• Excellent writing and presentation skills;
• Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of other United Nations languages is an advantage.
