Organizational Setting
The Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the region. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the region and, in collaboration with Divisions/Offices/Centres at headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to regional priorities.
RNE also advises on the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization’s Program of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the region, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. RNE develops and maintains relations with regionwide institutions including the Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs).
The post is located in the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) in Cairo, Egypt.
Reporting Lines
The Agribusiness Officer reports to the Senior Economist, RNE and works in close collaboration with relevant units at FAO headquarters.
Technical Focus
Coordinate and lead the design, implementation and evaluation of strategy and policy development as well as agricultural investment operations with a focus on agribusiness development and the creation of an enabling environment for efficient and inclusive agriculture and food systems, including functioning agricultural support services to rural markets and finance institutions.
Key Results
Comprehensive technical and policy expertise to support the planning, development and implementation of regional programmes, projects, products and services in accordance with the regional objectives and the FAO Strategic Framework.
