A Consultancy – Outdoor Safety Training
Overview The overall objective of the Z4ABC project is to contribute to the development of climate-relevant, productive, and sustainable transformation of agriculture, forestry, and food systems in Zambia to help achieve the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to cut emissions and adapt to climate impacts. More specifically, the project aims at (1) improving livelihoods and climate change resilience of specific agricultural, agroforestry, forestry, and food systems in the Lower Zambezi – Luangwa – Nyika (ZLN) corridor through value chain (VC) development; and (2) increasing the climate relevance of Agriculture and Knowledge Innovation Systems (AKIS) in the ZLN corridor. In order to achieve the above objectives, Z4ABC supports the transformation of selected agriculture, forestry, agroforestry-, and wildlife- based value chains (VCs) to become more sustainable, climate-resilient, and productive while supporting local livelihoods, food security & biodiversity. This consultancy is focusing on the Community-based Ecotourism value-web in Fulamponje Community Forest, Rufunsa District, Lusaka Province. The ecotourism project involves a campsite with development of associated outdoor activities, including mountain biking, hiking, birdwatching and rock climbing. As part of the development, we seek a suitable service provider who can train community staff in basic mountain leadership skills, including mountain safety and first aid.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Objectives of the assignment
The objectives of the assignment are to provide training to community staff at Chikwenya campsite, Fulamponje in basic mountain leadership, safety and first aid. It is anticipated there would be 10-12 trainees. The specific objectives are to:
a Develop training modules, suitable for community staff, on mountain leadership and safety and first aid.
A. Mountain leadership and safety
B. First aid
C. Advanced mountain leadership, safety and evacuation procedures
bProvide training to community staff on modules (A) and (B) above.
cProvide training on (C) above.
It is anticipated that each training event would require about four (4) days.
The consultant will produce the following deliverables:
3x training modules.
Report of training activities
Requirements
The consultant should be an expert in outdoor leadership with appropriate certification for teaching First Aid. The Consultant will be required to present their certificates to the panel.
Proven track record of safety training.
Must be well vested in outdoor leadership and first aid, with at least 5 years’ experience.
Knowledge about tourism, mountain biking, rock climbing and extreme sports will be an added advantage.
Knowledge and experience of how to handle different sizes and ages of groups during outdoor events.
Knowledge of different forest landscapes, outdoor conditions, and terrains.
Strong knowledge of camp preparation and camping rules.

Terms and conditions ICRAF shall advertise the consultancy for competitive bidding. Interested individuals are requested to submit the following.
• A Technical and Financial proposal which should include a description of the methodology to be used, data to be collected, and a schedule of planned activities.
• CV(s) of the professional(s) with suitable references to undertake the consultancy.
• Two (2) samples of previous work related to this assignment.
