2021 Graduate Programme (BIS Innovation Hub, Swiss centre) Are you a recent or soon-to-be graduate in a quantitative field? Are you interested in money? Specifically, working with experts in finance and technology at the global centre for central banking to develop digital currency projects and prototypes. If so, the BIS Innovation Hub is looking for exceptional graduates to work in its Swiss centre for up to 11 months. Launched in 2019, the BIS Innovation Hub pursues a mandate to: (i) foster in-depth insights into critical trends in financial technology; (ii) develop applications using new technologies to address problems in the global financial sector that can be shared as public goods with the central banking community and beyond; and (iii) foster a network of central bank experts on innovation. The Innovation Hub’s Swiss centre benefits from being situated in the Basel headquarters of the BIS and the Zurich offices of the Swiss National Bank – reflecting the international culture and collaboration with the Swiss financial sector. Central bank digital currency and data streaming projects are already underway, with future collaborative projects in the pipeline. If you join us to work on these projects, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-nationality team comprising some of the foremost experts in their fields. Your customers will be central banks, meaning that your work will not only be challenging but also meaningfully contributing to the global public good and a safer and more inclusive financial system.

Programme duration: Up to 11 months

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree completed in 2020 or 2021;
  • Software development and coding ability, including:
  • Familiarity with two or more coding languages (eg JavaScript or Solidity) and confident at the command line;
  • Comfortable navigating GitHub (including experience in opening and picking up others’ pull requests) as well as reading and writing documentation;
  • Understanding package managers (eg Yarn, NPM and Dep);
  • Strong communication skills in English; and
  • Research in networking or design concepts and experience with smart contracts is an advantage.
