We need you to work closely with young people in Mackay who are involved with the youth justice system to take the steps to become the best they can be, through practical support, case management and advocacy.

In this casual role (up to 24 hours a week) you’ll be empowered to make a difference in young people’s lives by learning, sharing and collaborating to find new ways to solve problems.

You will make a difference by:

Providing support to young people in the catchment area who are not supported by protective factors (families, friends, communities, school and cultural connections) to enable them to lead safe, healthy and active lives Supporting young people who are entering, or already involved in, the Youth Justice System, including those who are exiting detention or under youth justice supervision Providing a culturally responsive service by embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into your programs and services Assisting young people and their families, kin or community members to make informed decisions about, or be connected to, the services and support that they need

Clear understanding, willingness and demonstrated skills in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, young people disengaged with the school system, young people in contact with the justice system and those who have experienced trauma Demonstrated experience in youth work An understanding of intergenerational trauma Strong verbal and written communication skills An understanding of child protection concerns and commitment to responding safely and effectively Sound time management and organisational skills Ability to manage and plan as a team and individual
