This is an exciting opportunity to join the Language Services Division (LS) of the IMF´s Corporate Services & Facilities Department (CSF) which plays a critical role in supporting the mandate of the IMF, a global international organization established in 1944 to further international economic cooperation among its 191 member countries.

CSF/LS is seeking a Translation Coordination Analyst (TCA) who will be responsible for coordinating all translation projects, including publications and digital content; monitoring progress to ensure accurate and timely completion and delivery; and providing customer service. The successful candidate will work under the general direction of the Chief Translator and supervision of the Section Chief of Translation Coordination Center (TCC) to provide multi-lingual translation services, facilitating fulfillment of IMF’s mandates in surveillance, lending, and capacity development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates translation requests and serves as the point of contact for requestors, translation sections, and freelancers. Ensures that requests are properly authorized and timely completed following LS policies/guidelines/procedures and that completed translations meet all the requirements of the requesting office. Works with divisional colleagues to meet/anticipate the translation sections’ needs, in the process of coordinating the distribution of translation jobs to in-house staff and freelancers.

Supports the translation sections by preparing files to be used in computer-assisted translation (CAT) environment, which includes performing document analysis, providing pre-translation using SDL Studio while managing all requests in the Translation Management System (TMS). Also, providing references using modern translation technology tools or existing databases.

Provides support to a global network of freelance translators, this may include providing pre-translations and sharing translation memories (TMs) using translation technology tools, and the translation management system (TMS) to ensure timely delivery of final products. The successful candidate also maintains and updates a database of freelance translators and translation-related service providers.

Coordinates and manages the translation and production of flagship and other publications which includes management/preparation of files to facilitate the use of CAT tools by translators and editors, and to streamline the desk-top-publishing (DTP) workflow.

Provides language-specific assistance to the translation sections, including text processing, basic proofreading, or alignment of documents to be uploaded in translation memories and performing basic DTP as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in translation project management.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools (SDL in particular), translation management systems (TMS, Plunet in particular), machine translation technology, and content management systems.
  • Native in French, and excellent working knowledge of English.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft tools including MS word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of DTP tools such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator.
  • In-depth knowledge of web-based systems including those used for video and digital content creation and editing (e.g., SRT Edit Pro-Make and Edit, other video subtitling software).
  • Attention to detail and ability to keep up with multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams and to manage multiple, fast-paced demands effectively.
  • Excellent judgment and self-motivation.

    Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of a relevant university degree, or equivalent, is required. Alternatively, a minimum of two years of experience in a related position at Grade 5, or equivalent, is required.

    This is a 1-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.

    The selected candidate has to be a resident of the DMV area.
