OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMMEThe Unit aims to drive the effective use of digital health and digitally driven data systems to improve health outcomes in the WHO African Region. Its focus is on developing and promoting regional strategic targets, while leveraging regional capacities to strengthen collective efforts and enhance initiatives. The Unit works in close collaboration with the HQ Digital Health and Innovation Department and ensures active participation in global digital health initiatives.In addition to ensuring that health systems are strengthened at county level and evidence is generated for strengthening health systems the Unit supports Member States by providing guidance on evidence-based norms and standards and building their capacity to implement and scale digital health solutions effectively.The overarching goal is to empower countries in the WHO African Region to harness digital health technologies to achieve universal access to high-quality, integrated, and people-centered health services. This includes improving the coverage and quality of effective interventions and establishing systems to measure their impact, ultimately advancing health outcomes for all.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESUnder the overall guidance of Assistant Regional Director, the incumbent will—Manage collaborative projects with HQ such as WHO's Global Digital Health Certification Network etc.Provide management and technical support to Member States, ensuring digital health initiatives are executed efficiently and aligned with project objectives.Facilitatethe coordination of digital health activities across the regional office, including scheduling meetings, tracking deliverables, and maintaining stakeholder engagement.Ensure project goals are met, risks are identified, and mitigation strategies are implemented.Oversee the the Regional Digital Health Implementation Framework's targets, ensuring adherence to timelines and deliverables through effective project management practices.Manage the implementation of the Regional Digital Health Programme, including workplan development, resource allocation, and progress monitoring.Project manage regional digital initiatives including the Regional Health Data Hub, and ensure an integrated process across clusters.Compile, document, and disseminate lessons learned and success stories from digital health initiatives to inform project improvement and replication.Prepare donor reports, manage proposal submissions, and ensure compliance with funding agreements to support digital health project sustainability.Take on additional project management responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and efficient execution.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EducationEssential: Bachelor's degree in public health, social science, business, information technology or equivalent professional training.
Desirable: Master'sdegree in a discipline relevant such as social science to public health.
ExperienceEssential: At least 5 years' experience as Project Management Officer/Coordinator with development organization, public health, finance institution or comparable experience in the private sector.
Desirable: Demonstrable work experience of increasing involvement and responsibility in project management or in program management.
SkillsDemonstrated expertise in coordinating and managing initiatives across large international organizations; Demonstrate an understanding of the implementation of various digital health initiatives at both regional and national levels; Demonstrated ability to deliver on results for impact;Proven writing and communication skills;Proven interpersonal skills with ability to promote consensus, communicate progress and results, and resolve issues in a proactive manner, while ensuring effective work practices and ethics.

REMUNERATIONWHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 64,121 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2901 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
