NRC started operations in Iran in 2012. We currently deliver humanitarian assistance in 10 provinces in the sectors of Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (LFS), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter and Settlements, as well as Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA). We co-lead several technical inter-agency working groups and provide capacity building to humanitarian partners in country. To complement our programs, NRC Iran established an advocacy unit to develop joint messages and initiatives amongst INGOs to improve rights of the displaced.

Duties & Responsiblities

The purpose of the Shelter & WASH Specialist is to provide overall leadership and strategic direction to these Core Competencies within NRC’s Programme Unit in Iran. S/he will be responsible to lead the technical development of Shelter/WASH Programmes in the country, develop the Shelter and WASH strategies, control, harmonize and ensure quality of Shelter and WASH projects.

Develop Shelter/WASH strategy, technical guidance and Macro LFAs Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures Contribute to fundraising,  develop and revise funding proposal, budgets and donor reports Identify trends technical standards and donor priorities Follow up on compliance with contractual commitments within Shelter/WASH, ensure high technical quality and synergies in project implementation Provide technical direction and project implementation support Ensure that key learnings are extracted from Shelter/WASH implementation, and incorporate them in Shelter/WASH and staff development processes Provide systematic training and build capacity of technical staff Represent NRC in relevant forums/clusters, including with national authorities and donors Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

Skills & Experience

Minimum 4 years experience within WASH and/or Shelter & Settlements in a humanitarian/ recovery context Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts Minimum 2 years of Shelter or WASH Specialist/TA or Project/Programme Manager Bachelor’s degree or similar in relevant field Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile Fluency in English, both written and verbal  Knowledge of the Iran displacement context is an asset Experience with scaling up of humanitarian programs in strictly controlled context is an asset Detailed oriented and strong organizational skills Previous experience in working with INGOs Experience of project management Proven experience with capacity building is an advantage Understanding of environmental standards in humanitarian response is required.

What We Offer 

Duty Station: ehran, with field travel to Areas North and South (35% travel) Contract: 12 months with possibility of extension. NRC’s Salary Scale: NRC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.  Start date: By January 2023
