The Virology Laboratory conducts research, and provides support to projects and training. It is working on Viral infections, including HIV, HEV, HPV, and most recently SARS-CoV-19 infection. The laboratory scientists conduct research and activities as principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and co-investigators, collaborating with national and international institutes/universities and with different Divisions of icddr,b. The laboratory also works for anti-viral drug discovery, diagnostic kit evaluation, and new therapeutic and vaccine trials.
Position Description:
The Senior Research Officer will report to the Assistant Scientist and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing all activities related to lab research of different projects to conduct high-quality research and implementation of the project activities within the strategy of research protocol, as well as organisational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved to–
Plan and implement lab research in viral/bacterial/fungal infections (e.g., HIV, HEV, HPV, SARS-CoV-19, Shigella spp., Candida spp.,); Develop Protocol and present it to RRC and ERC for approval; Perform laboratory tests and experiments following the protocol of the affiliated research project that includes: Virus/bacterial culture, NGS Library preparation, and reporting; Conduct genomic analysis using different Bioinformatics tools (e.g., Bash scripting, FastQC, SPAdes and QUAST etc.). Perform in-house maintenance and calibration of complex laboratory equipment like PCR machine, Qubit Fluorometric reader, CO2 incubators, centrifuge machines, etc.; Prepare final report for submission to supervisor; Revise final report based on feedback received from supervisor. Review the manuscript written by the Research Investigator and provide feedback to support scientific manuscript creation; Participate in external quality assurance schemes; Mentor young professionals and prepare them for higher responsibilities.Required qualifications and experience:
M Sc. in Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering/Molecular Science with good academic records; 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.Location: Dhaka
Contract Type and Duration:
Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 5 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.Salary & Benefits:
