This is an exciting opportunity for persons who have significant experience working within the domestic and family violence sector. The High-Risk Team First Nations Advisor role aims to provide support and guidance to team members to strengthen their practice around the specific needs of First Nations individuals with consideration of local protocols, languages, and family or kinship groups.

In this full-time or part-time permanent position based in Mount Isa your role will make an impact by:

Providing a high level of cultural expertise of family structures, cultural practices and protocols and knowledge of community connections. Bringing knowledge of intersectionality and diversity to develop and maintain respectful relationships with clients and across the service system and community. Fostering a commitment to the continuous improvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competence within the team. Providing comprehensive advice to ensure culturally appropriate decision making by HRT Team Members. Identifying learning and development needs in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practice within the HRT and 54 reasons teams. Exercising initiative to maintain and further develop links, cooperation and networks within the Mt Isa HRT communities to improve coordination of service responses to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Participate in support systems within the organisation including staff meetings, team supervision, staff appraisals, and informal contact. Maintaining knowledge of current and emerging trends and practices concerning domestic violence and the delivery of domestic violence services and programs to inform and develop appropriate service delivery to meet identified organisational and community needs.

Do you have experience in leading teams and would relish the opportunity to lead a multi-agency team in the provision of integrated, holistic, culturally appropriate safety responses for victims and their children who are at high risk of serious harm or lethality due to domestic or family violence.


This role requires:

An extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation cultural customs, lore and protocols, and the diversity of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in regional, rural and remote areas. Experience in mentoring, coaching and modelling of culturally sensitive practice to team members. Proficient at building and fostering relationships and partnership, sharing knowledge, and delivering training to build the capacity of the sector. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of high risk indicators, protective factors and contra-indicators of possible interventions relating to DFV. Understanding and experience working with current legislation (Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Child Protection Act 1999), Common Risk Assessment Framework and DFV Information Sharing Guidelines. The ability to communicate sensitively and effectively and work well with people.
