The salary range is $120,000 -$202,000.
Position Overview
The Senior Director, Ocean and Climate, leads the Climate & Environment Department’s efforts on ocean and climate-related issues, with a particular focus on the decarbonization of the shipping sector. Responsibilities include developing and advancing policy priorities, building and maintaining partnerships, fundraising, and staffing UNF leadership on these topics.
Essential Functions
Oversee the development and execution of all aspects – from strategy to fundraising to budget management – of UNF’s ocean and climate work, including a major initiative on shipping decarbonization, partnering closely with the rest of the Climate & Environment team.Build and manage a team of 2-4 staff.Collaborate with members of the Climate & Environment team on related priorities and in exploring new opportunities.Act as the point of contact with key partners, inside and outside the UN, on ocean, shipping decarbonization and climate activities.Develop and maintain collaborations and partnerships with governments, civil society, the private sector, and philanthropy on ocean and climate issues.Provide research and write memos, assessments, briefing documents, talking points, and testimony to support decisions and engagement of UNF leadership.Plan and convene meetings, workshops, and consultations to advance UNF’s ocean and climate efforts.Coordinate with UNF colleagues to develop and execute on UNF’s communications priorities and goals.Represent UNF at outside meetings and professional gatherings.Other duties as assigned.Selection Criteria
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in climate policy, political science, economics, or related field required.Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience.In-depth familiarity with a range of climate change, environment, shipping, and ocean issues.Self-starter with good judgment; proven ability to drive multiple aspects of projects from inception to implementation within a limited timeframe.Stress tolerance and resilience; a sense of humor; attention to detail; and ability to work with shifting priorities.Ability to develop, maintain, and enjoy effective working relationships with people from diverse organizations or cultures.Ability to build strong, trust-based internal and external working partnerships with internationally diverse stakeholders.Strong skills working in coalitions and teams: collaborator, problem solver, and relationship-builder with strong interpersonal skills.Strong communications, research, and project and event management skills.Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
