The TeamThe Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) is an embedded research institute with the Gates Foundation. We develop, use, and share computational modeling tools, and promote quantitative decision-making to support global efforts to eradicate infectious diseases and achieve permanent improvements in the health of those most in need. The IDM team comprises both research scientists and software engineers who work with a wide ecosystem of partners including universities, NGOs, government ministries and other research organizations.

The goal of IDM's Global Public Goods (GPG) strategy is to create a sustainable ecosystem of open-source tools that empower local partners in low-resource settings to accelerate the evidence to policy lifecycle. A key requirement in executing this strategy is to ensure IDM’s software offerings are easy to use and well understood by a global community of modelers without needing advanced software skills. User Onboarding refers to the set of processes that are driven to improve the experience of a well-defined set of users with IDM’s software and tools.

Your Role

This role is responsible for defining and executing the strategy for user onboarding, as part of IDM’s software team. This includes defining user personas, building clear workflows for user onboarding with identified R&R, cross-functional collaboration across research and software and using technology advances like AI to improve the productivity and effectiveness of the software team in building superior experience for LMIC researchers across the world.

This is a Seattle based role with foundation benefits including relocation.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategy: Create and maintain the strategy for user onboarding with well-defined outcomes and milestone based execution plan to exceed the stated goals
  • User Personas: User persona definition and implementation across software, ensuring voice of user and feedback is incorporated in our execution plans. User persona spans across IDM researchers and external LMIC researchers
  • Technology: Be the subject matter expert and thought leader on the latest advances in technology, tools and approaches that create compelling user experiences
  • Workflows: Design and implement clear workflow for documentation, standards and guidelines with clear roles and responsibilities across the software team. The workflow should address API documentation, user documentation, code samples and extensibility guides.
  • Communications: Create guidelines for authors to produce and share manuscripts, scientific research and website/social content, in partnership with the brand and communication teams. Provide consultation on outlines and journal selection strategy.
  • Information Management: Design and implement a clear strategy for internal and external information management across SharePoint, GitHub and IDM website.
