The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking applications from enthusiastic individuals to comprehensively review socio-hydrological processes in Asian mega deltas under IWMI\u2019s internship program. The internship will be based at IWMI's headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Scope of internship

The CGIAR Initiative on Asian Mega-Deltas (AMD) is working to identify, synthesize, evaluate, adapt, and scale technical, institutional, and policy innovations through a range of activities focused on improving deltaic production systems, developing nutrition-sensitive deltaic agrifood systems, de-risking delta-oriented value chains, facilitating inclusive deltaic food-systems governance, and introducing evidence-based delta development planning. As part of the AMD initiative, IWMI is leading work on hydrological modeling in the Ganges and Mekong deltas. The intern would gain experience working with country partners in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Vietnam to empower local institutions and stakeholders against anthropogenic and climate risks. During the internship period, the intern will also review the socio-hydrological dynamics of Asian mega deltas.

During this internship, the intern will assist in the following areas:

Assisting and performing an extensive review of relevant literature, including academic papers, reports, and publications related to socio-hydrology and water management in deltaic regions to summarize key findings. Assisting in broad literature review and hydrological analysis using secondary datasets. Preparing and presenting the results in geospatial maps or other representation methods. Assess water and agriculture systems in delta regions and draw a relationship between climate and anthropogenic impacts. Assisting in evaluating social and hydrological dynamics as well as underlying relationships between different systems or sectors in target delta regions. Identify research gaps and areas where further investigation is required. Support researchers in producing a comprehensive report by summarizing the findings, insights and recommendations.

Requirements

Master's degree or an equivalent qualification (recently completed/ about to complete), in Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences or any other related discipline. Good knowledge of hydrology and the interconnection between the social and environmental systems. Knowledge or experience in scientific and grey literature review and analyzing secondary information. Experience in geospatial mapping using ArcGIS, QGIS or similar software. Experience in using Zotero or other reference management systems. Ability to work within a team and have problem-solving skills.

Benefits

IWMI will provide a monthly stipend to the selected candidate during the internship period.

The duration of the internship is 06 months. This is an internationally recruited internship: therefore, individuals with relevant abilities from diverse locations worldwide are encouraged to apply.

To apply, visit www.iwmi.org/jobs . Applications must be submitted by 24:00 (Colombo time) on January 15, 2024 (Monday). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
