Operational Context:
The Protection Intern will be reporting to a Senior Protection staff within the Protection Pillar. The incumbent is expected to provide functional and administrative support to the protection pillar on protection related events, meetings, research, drafting of notes, including correspondences and reports.
The Protection Intern will support the protection unit in preparing for regional events, including a regional protection meeting that, aligned with the regional protection strategy and global policies, will help protection staff in the region to move forward with a common vision and informed of recent corporate strategic approaches. Under the guidance of a senior protection staff, s/he may liaise with UNHCR staff, partners. She/he will also support the Protection Pillar in other responsibilities, for example in preparation of the NGO consultations.
The intern will facilitate consultations with persons of concern, draft documents, and presentations, as well as will independently conduct research on specific themes to feed into protection documents. The intern will therefore gain experience on protection principles UNHCR work is based on, and will learn processes that are applicable in that field.
The first months of the internship are expected to be conducted remotely, depending on the evolving context linked with the COVID-19 situation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Professional Work Experience
Degree in Law, Social Sciences, (International Relations, Political Science), or other relevant degree.
Excellent knowledge of information management tools, ability to produce spreadsheets, organize information and produce visual summaries.
Good command of drafting, communication, and presentation skills.
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office.

Language Requirements:**
Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.

Food and Transportation Allowance:
Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses which is 10% of DSA (Daily Subsistence Allowance) for Pretoria per day up to maximum of 30 days in a month payable in local currency.
