About Action for Education

Action for Education is an independent, grassroots organization founded in the UK and Greece in 2018. We develop and support projects that aim to remove the barriers to education for displaced communities. Since January 2021, our operations on Chios consist of three learning centres for youth and young adults. This is an emergency response to the desperate conditions experienced by refugees on Chios – a critical bottleneck on the road of flight to Europe.

Each of our three centres, though they serve different demographics and have slightly varying activities and objectives, offer an essential safe space to youth with a focus on meeting the needs of the most vulnerable populations - including unaccompanied minors and young women. We support students to develop and maintain language and concentration as well as practical and cognitive skills through curricula of English, mathematics, languages and project-based learning. We also offer access to basic services, such as hygiene facilities, supplementary nutrition and referrals to specialised assistance.

Action for Education is committed to responding to the ever-evolving situation on Chios by staying informed with on-the-ground developments, working closely with local partners and the refugee community to provide targeted and sustainable interventions for the benefit of the asylum-seeking community on Chios which are within our scope and means.**
