Job Description
Title: Program Officer, Coalition Partnerships, America Is All In
Job Family/Level: Program/Specialist
Reports to: Sr. Director, Federal Climate Policy and Subnational Programs
FLSA Status: Exempt
Date: December 2023
Major Functions:
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Program Officer, Private Sector Action, to join the America Is All In team.
America Is All In (All In), a program of World Wildlife Fund (WWF), is seeking an experienced and dynamic coalition builder to serve as the initiative’s Private Sector Program Officer.
The Program Officer will support the design and execution of strategies to engage large corporations, investors and financial institutions, small- and medium-sized businesses, and other private-sector entities in the broad efforts of America Is All In. The Program Officer will develop, in partnership with colleagues, a strategy focused on corporations that operate, serve, or otherwise impact energy and climate at-risk communities with an environmental justice lens. The role will involve the curation of resources and opportunities relevant to accelerating private-sector climate action. Moreover, this position will include building and maintaining relationships with private sector institutions that are existing and future members of the America Is All In coalition and with partner organizations that drive and support private sector action on climate.
All In members include thousands of U.S. cities, states, tribal nations, businesses, schools, and institutions of faith, health, and culture that work together to champion a whole-of-society approach to addressing the climate crisis. All In seeks to build stronger engagement by subnational and non-state actors – particularly the private sector – to influence regional, federal, and international climate policy so that they can implement equitable climate action in their jurisdictions and institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains and manages key America Is All In partnerships focused on private sector climate action and directly engages with large businesses, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), financial institutions, and other private sector constituencies.
- Develops fit-for-purpose strategies to support the different private sector entity needs that resonate and mobilize climate action; fosters relationships with colleagues, including WWF's private sector engagement, climate, and business teams, to support a cohesive approach and to identify high-impact opportunities.
- Identifies gaps in coalition membership and develops strategies to bring in more members.
- Leads efforts to drive U.S. SME engagement with the SME Climate Hub, a resource hub for small businesses working to reduce their emissions, and encourages SME uptake of federal resources and programs relevant to their own mitigation and resilience efforts – particularly in highly vulnerable communities, including energy communities.
- Identifies storytelling opportunities from leading private sector entities to inform All In communications, tailors resources to business-specific audiences, and ensures robust private-sector representation in convenings and events.
- Oversees the exploration and possible development of consumer-centered campaigns and engagement strategies, thinking creatively about the private sector’s role in maximizing the impact of new federal climate policies.
- Supports the delivery of coalition services to other All In constituencies, including but not limited to labor, health care organizations, faith groups, and higher education institutions; helps manage and track engagement from coalition members.
- Represents WWF and America Is All In in relevant meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of professional experience or master’s degree and 2+ years of professional experience in business administration, sustainability, finance, or other relevant fields.
- Background in implementing corporate sustainability policy or practices or engaging on sustainability issues is preferred; direct private sector experience or prior tenure with nonprofit or advocacy organizations with a focus on private sector engagement is highly valued.
- Knowledge of U.S. climate policy, familiarity with federal legislative and administrative processes, and understanding of policy advocacy are highly valued.
- Familiarity with climate-related methodologies and platforms relevant to corporate climate ambition and implementation is valued but not a prerequisite.
- Outstanding relationship-building and corporate liaison skills.
- Project management experience, a proven track record of being a self-starter, and an ability to manage multiple tasks with appropriate supervision.
- Committed to building and strengthening a culture of inclusion within and across teams
- Identifies and aligns with WWF’s core values: Courage, Integrity, Respect, and Collaboration:
- Demonstrates courage by speaking up even when it is difficult, or unpopular.
- Builds trust with colleagues by acting with integrity, owning mistakes, and holding oneself accountable.
- Welcomes other points of view and ideas, recognizing and embracing different and contrary perspectives with kindness, curiosity, and encouragement.
- Makes conscious efforts to promote cooperative practices, behaviors, and ways of working across many groups and individuals.
