The TeamThe Communications Division, led by the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), oversees the foundation’s global communications strategy. The division brings together internal and external communications to advance the foundation’s mission to create a more equitable world.
The Office of the CCO (OCCO) ensures resources are aligned against insights and strategic priorities. Your Role
As the Principal Officer supporting the Chief Communications Officer and the Director, Strategy Planning, and Management (SPM) & Chief of Staff (CoS), you will play a pivotal role in establishing and advancing the global Communications Division’s new strategic vision. You will act as a trusted advisor to the CCO and Dir SPM & CoS, providing strategic oversight, thought partnership for key projects across the division. This includes creating critical new initiatives, such as the foundation’s misinformation strategy, designing and running pilot programs for innovative communication approaches, and partnering with the Measurement & Insights team to assess progress on these efforts.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership & Advisory
Serve as a principal advisor to the Chief Communications Officer and the Dir, SPM and CoS to build out the strategy.
As appropriate, partner closely with the SPM team and the executive leadership to align cross-functional goals with divisional strategy.
Represent the Communications Strategy in cross-foundation forums as needed.
Participate on the Communications Executive Team.
Misinformation Strategy Leadership
Lead the development of a comprehensive misinformation strategy, including alignment with the foundation’s broader strategic goals.
Work cross-functionally to identify misinformation risks and implement mitigation plans.
Innovation & Pilots
Design and oversee pilots that test new communication approaches stemming from the division’s refreshed strategy.
Ensure that pilot outcomes are measured, evaluated, and scaled where appropriate.
Insights-Driven Strategy Development
Partner with the Measurement & Insights team to ensure communication and misinformation strategies are grounded in qualitative and quantitative data.
Use data to present decision-making options, assess tradeoffs, and recommend courses of action.
Change Management & Culture
Partner with the SPM and CET on planning and implementing change management strategies to ensure smooth implementation of new initiatives across the division.
Help foster an inclusive and effective organizational culture by modeling collaborative leadership and addressing concerns transparently.
Your Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; advanced degree preferred.
10+ years experience in strategic communications planning and execution.
Proven ability to design and deliver data-informed strategies, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative insights.
Track record of success leading multifaceted initiatives
Experience working on or advising misinformation, media, communications, or public affairs strategies.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence, negotiate, and build trust across varied stakeholders.
Deep understanding of global and organizational contexts relevant to strategic communications and foundation initiatives.
This role is anticipated to include up to 30% domestic and international travel.

The salary range for this role is $261,700 to $405,700 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $285,300 to $442,100 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
