.Background

Malawi Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (MAITAG) provided positive recommendation on the implementation of reduced missed opportunity for vaccination and second year of life vaccination (MOV/2YL) in April 2020. The Ministry of Health uphold the MAITAG recommendation, and the country plans to commence the implementation of the project as a pilot first in three districts namely; Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzimba North. The World Health Organization country office is the main implementing partner assisting MOH-EPI to ensure successful implementation of the MOV/2YL.

Deliverables

  1. Support planning and coordination of the implementation of MOV/2YL strategies in the three districts
  2. Provide technical guidance in the development of MOV/2YL monitoring and evaluation tools
  3. Provide technical support for MOV/2YL training of the district health management team and health workers
  4. Provide mentorship of health care workers in the use of the MOV/2YL materials including checklist for screening of eligible individuals and the use of wheel.
  5. Provide technical support to the EPI in the development of additional activities to strengthen MOV/2YL strategies
  6. Provide technical support to EPI to ensure the continuity of the routine EPI services in the context of Covid-19 pandemic and polio outbreak response
  7. Provide technical guidance to strengthen routine immunization systems at the district level.
  8. At the end of the assignment, the consultant will be required to submit a technical report and a briefing note to the EPI Team Leader in the WHO Country Office as well as Performance Evaluation document assessed against the draft deliverables.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Qualifications

    Essential: Medical degree or degree in public health related field

    Desirable: At least a master’s degree public health/epidemiology /nutrition

    Experience

    Essential: A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.

    Desirable:  Familiarity with the Malawi EPI program and COVID-19 response is a plus Previous experience in routine immunisation programme

    Skills/Knowledge

    Demonstrated knowledge of public health field work, experience in the implementation of the public health intervention at the district level, conducting vaccine preventable disease surveillance activities,experience in integration of public health interventions or other relevant expertise
