Organizational Setting
The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, \"Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection\". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.
The Division of IAEA Marine Environment Laboratories consists of three laboratories, which are located in Monaco. The Division supports Member States in enhancing their capacity to use nuclear and isotopic techniques to understand marine and atmospheric environmental processes and dynamics, and to identify and address environmental problems caused by radioactive and non-radioactive pollutants and climate change.
Main Purpose
Under the supervision of the Supervisor (Engineering and Electronics Support), the Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining seawater and air conditioning systems at the IAEA Marine Environment Laboratories (NAML) in Monaco. This includes maintaining and checking technical installations in close collaboration with the external maintenance contractor and providing input for design changes. He/She also acts as a liaison between Monaco staff and the Division of Information Technology (MTIT) at Headquarters, offering first-line support and escalating complex issues.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Within established standards and procedures:
Ensure the maintenance of the seawater pumping system with the external maintenance contractor by improving the seawater network according to needs;
Overview the air-conditioning, exhaust, and ventilation systems and fume washers by using the monitoring software survey and checks all critical facilities such as alarms: laboratory temperatures, fume-cupboards, the seawater network, seawater temperatures, and electrical technical cupboards, refrigerating cooling systems for scientific equipment and de-ionised water system and deep freezer for storage of scientific samples.
Assists the Supervisor (Engineering and Electronics Support) with the design of new systems for the laboratories, the workshops and the offices, concerning air conditioning, seawater pumping and, in case of change of premises, by providing input on technical details including technical advice and proposing design changes.
Assists in the coordination with the suppliers and maintenance companies.
Works closely with colleagues within EES (Engineering and Electronics Support) to share information, leverage expertise, and achieve shared goals.
Acts as liaison between Monaco staff and MTIT’s services, providing first-line support and escalating complex issues.
Prepares orders for required equipment and supplies needed for the above-mentioned systems and workshop in cooperation with the Procurement Assistant.
As a member of the NAML Fire Team, involved in providing technical advice regarding safety regulations within the duty station.
The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as an Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the IAEA's Radiation Safety Regulations.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Completed secondary education.
At least five years of related working experience, such as experience with maintenance of air conditioning systems, building maintenance.
Comfort using IT tool enabling to support NAML’s staff troubleshooting hardware and software.
Excellent oral and written command of English and French. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Administrative skills testing to IAEA standard might be part of the selection process.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 44814 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
