If you are those people, the Norwegian Refugee Council in Nigeria is looking for an enthusiastic, passionate livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant  to join our team in Area South, Adamawa State.

Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

Together with LFS Officers, the Assistants will be responsible for the implementation of livelihoods and food security activities in the field in areas of Agriculture, Income Generation Activities, (IGAs), and VSLA activities and livestock production and management (If the position holds a technical supervisor role for the function – add this generic text) To be responsible for the (add function name) support to colleagues with (function) responsibilities and develop relevant (function) training including coaching of newly (function name positions) to ensure they meet NRC’s (function) standards. Also contribute to the induction of new staff with a role in the (function) processes  Participant in data collection for project monitoring and evaluation.  Coordinate and implement livelihood and food security activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans. Coordinate with relevant partners working in the same implementation areas. Ensure proper archiving/filling of project documents on filling tree. Facilitate the distribution of project materials and equipment according to procedures. Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures, (if a function role) and a specific responsibility for the functions policies and procedures  Prepare weekly progress reports and other documents as required. Supervise, train and develop team of good community facilitators, community volunteers, and survey enumerators. Conduct livelihoods assessments to determine most viable income generating activities.

Specific responsibilities

Support stakeholder and partners in training on project participant. Coordinate with stakeholders and partners in training of project participant on small scale business, income generating activities, VSLA, and livestock production & management. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines. Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management. Ensure proper filing of documents.  Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function. Supervise distribution of materials and equipment are timely and accordance with the procedures. Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities, aim and objective. Explore and facilitate introduction of new technology, method and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities. Any other responsibility that is not listed above

Competencies 

Generic professional competencies:

 BSC, HND in Agriculture, Agric Engineering, Economics, Social Sciences or related. A minimum of one year in a related position is required. Work experience from Northeast State context is preferred. Experience and understanding of Selection, Planning and Management (SPM) of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) both on farm and off farm. Experience in project participant skills training and distribution of business startup kits. Experience in agricultural livelihoods (crop and livestock production), value chain addition and VSLA. Previous experience of working in complex and volatile contexts. Knowledge of the context in NE state. Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision. Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity. Ability to work in insecure environments. Communicating with respects. Candidates from Northeast State preferred. Any other duty assigned.
