Reconciliation, Equity, Anti-Racism, Diversity & Inclusion (READI) Intern (8-Weeks)

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE:
This is an 8-week summer internship opportunity for a student pursuing a career in the diversity space to learn and support workplace programs under the guidance of a skilled diversity leader. As Save The Children’s Reconciliation, Equity, Anti-Racism, Diversity & Inclusion (READI) Summer Intern, you will be reporting the Senior Manager, READI and be responsible for assisting our continued efforts to foster and maintain a leading inclusive workplace based on all the key principles of READI. This requires broad collaboration with staff and demonstration of Save the Children’s values especially empathy, inclusion, courage and reciprocity to skillfully operationalize, communicate, track, report on and evaluate all initiatives, programs and events that advance READI plans while bringing all employees along on a shared journey of learning and action.
A key objective is to provide skills in research and the creation of learning materials and tools to the READI strategy and programs for employees and the community we serve with a special focus on anti-oppression/anti-racism (AOAR), gender equality, and reconciliation with the Indigenous community. This ongoing and meaningful work will research ways to shift power through decolonization practices and solutions in alignment with Save The Children Canada’s strategic plan and values.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Assist with all READI projects, programs, policy reviews and surveys and reports to ensure READI is embedded in all that we do. Deliver and complete any assigned projects on time Research, design and facilitate training and learning materials for employees and leaders. Research reconciliation best practices to support Indigenous inclusion, gender equality, and AOAR in alignment with our organization's values and strategic goals. Assist with decolonization activities with an understanding of the prevailing impacts on the Indigenous and Black community and many other groups impacted by colonialism in Canada and globally in the international development sphere. Create READI data dashboards, templates and presentations to show organizational progress on deliverables. Assist with the implement initiatives related to inclusive talent processes, employee resource groups/affinity groups, recruitment, engagement, learning, compensation and performance of employees. Research and identify partnerships and community events linked to our community partners. Short list the ones the organization should attend. Create and maintain a database of these community events and activities for the full year indicating one-time only vs annual events. Include cost and organizer contact information and websites. Plan and coordinate related event logistics, activities and presentations.
Qualifications include (but are not limited to):
Current student enrolled in or recently graduated from Studies in Sociology, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Community Development/Social Work or other related field who meet the Canada Summer Jobs Grant eligibility criteria. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to connect with employees. Comfort and skill in using office software, i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. Experience with general research, analysis, and recommendations. Demonstrated interest, knowledge, understanding and empathy for the culture, history and current oppressions experienced in society including oppressions experienced by BIPOC communities, 2SLGBTQ+ and disability communities. Shows respect and comfort working with underrepresented groups, diverse communities and intersecting social identities. Reliable and punctual with the ability to take initiative in a fast-paced setting responding to competing demands. Displays good judgment, is organized and able to work independently and in a team setting.
