Location: United States of America

About this position

We are seeking a Senior Consultant for IDB Invest's Financial Products and Services Division (FNP), who possesses extensive experience in structuring guarantee products to support private sector development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of IDB Invest’s financial products and services, making a meaningful impact in the region.

Credit and liquidity support guarantees are crucial for fostering sustainable development and economic progress, as they enable private sector entities to manage cash flow and meet obligations even during financial stress. IDB Invest aims to enhance its guarantee offerings, including partial credit guarantees for debt securities issued by private sector clients and guarantees on asset portfolios (risk transfer). The objective of this consultancy is to provide expert analysis and recommendations on the structuring and sizing of guarantees, ensuring that they meet the needs of private sector clients, are attractive to institutional investors, and comply with regulatory requirements.

As a consultant, you will develop tools to promote IDB Invest’s guarantee products more efficiently. This role will involve mapping the guarantees and risk transfer products currently offered by regional commercial banks, optimizing IDB Invest’s offerings and developing a roadmap to scale up the products.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with the Debt Capital Markets and Resource Mobilization teams to assess the specifics of IDB Invest’s guarantee offerings and pricing structures and compare to market practice/standards.
  • Engage with local market participants, including commercial banks, dealer-brokers, stock exchanges, multi-lateral development banks and rating agencies, to gather insights on current guarantee offerings and identify key differences from IDB Invest’s products.
  • Interact with local and international institutional investors to understand their needs and inform IDB Invest’s of any gaps in current offerings.
  • Enhance the origination and monitoring of guarantee products by developing statistical models to quantify risk exposure and determine appropriate guarantee coverage to achieve targeted credit ratings, both at origination and for ongoing valuation purposes.
  • Create internal/external marketing material to support origination of guarantee products focusing on key markets such as Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Chile.
  • Conduct a benchmarking exercise on the initiatives of other international finance institutions and similar organizations in the region to inform IDB Invest’s strategy for scaling guarantee products.
  • Define a roadmap for the implementation of IDB Invest’s strategy to scale-up guarantee products in key markets.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations with relevant audiences within IDB Group.
