The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.
The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their Peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP). It provides Services to partners' programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.
United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) under the Department of Operational Support (DOS) is responsible to provide critical Logistics, Geospatial, Information &Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.
UNGSC is comprised of three core Service areas:
• Supply Chain Service (SCS)
• Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT)
• Central Service (CS) SGITT is the operational hub for the support and delivery of ICT services and solutions to field operations and it operates from two locations: UNSGC in Brindisi, Italy, and UNICTFV in Valencia, Spain. SGITT supports Peacekeeping operations, Special Political Missions, UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes with round-the-clock, high-availability and resilient information and communications technology, and geospatial information services.
The Infrastructure and Operations Section (IOS) is a key operational enabler of the enterprise centralization and consolidation strategy under the ICT Strategy. It provides all the centrally required equipment, hardware, software, communications and supporting infrastructure and services, to allow clients around the world to connect and use secure UN information and communications systems.
The ICT Associate will carry out his/her tasks at UNGSC/SGITT/IOS in Valencia, Spain.
The ICT Associate initiates and promotes technology solutions and innovations, integrating Internet of Things (IOT), in support of making UN peace operations more safe, more effective, and more efficient; and creates synergies that emphasize on enhanced operational performance, impact and capacities through the introduction of modern technology for the user base. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility
Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent works under the direct guidance of the Chief, Infrastructure Operations Section (IOS) Infrastructure Operations Section, and Chief of Technology Infrastructure Support at the UN ICT Facility in Valencia, Spain. The ICT Associate - IoT/OT Developer/Integrator Technician helps in initiating and promoting technology innovations in IoT/OT, smart buildings, industrial processes, Data Center maintenance, and is responsible for following duties.

Assist in designing, implementing and managing the integration of IoT/OT smart devices into OT processes, ensuring seamless communication between devices, PLCs and microcontrollers, and control systems. Support in the development, configuration and integration of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and microcontrollers to control and monitor various industrial equipment and processes, streamlining automation and optimizing production workflows. Utilize data from IoT/OT devices and other relevant sources to perform data analysis, develop dashboards, derive valuable insights, and identify opportunities for process improvement, predictive maintenance, and energy efficiency. Assist in the development and support of IoT/OT systems and components for data acquisition, processing, visualization, and data analysis to monitor, control, and visualize real-time data from various industrial assets. Help in the development of solutions for the automation of OT processes, smart sensors and equipment. Conduct ICS/OT site assessments to identify critical systems and perform or provide recommendation for integration and development. Provide remote support and troubleshooting for IoT/OT systems, PLCs, and smart devices to address technical issues promptly and minimize downtime. Continuously optimize and fine-tune IoT/OT systems, PLC configurations, and data analytics processes to improve system performance and operational efficiency. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, data analysts, to ensure successful integration and functionality of IoT/OT systems within the existing infrastructure. Maintain comprehensive documentation of system designs, configurations, and integration processes for reference and knowledge-sharing purposes. Assist in the design and implementation of third party interfaces to other systems/DB to integrate information from other systems/interfaces to provide reporting (integration with SAP, SQL) to check costings from Web Services etc. Maintain servers and review their health by patching, checking logs and Application Logs. Work on the preventive maintenance of the infrastructure equipment systems; Support in the development of technical specifications for equipment procurement, Bill of Material and assist in procurement process, and coordinate the technical evaluation of offers and proposals received. Work on the training materials, SOPs, user guidelines and provide trainings to strengthen and develop the capacity. Stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in IoT/OT technologies, PLCs, and data analytics to propose and implement innovative solutions. Required experience:
A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in development and integration of infrastructure systems. A minimum of 2 years of Knowledge and administration of industrial IoT platforms like ThingWorx, AVEVA/OSIsoft PI or similar. A minimum of 1 year of experience with SharePoint or similar collaboration / content management platform. A minimum of 1 year of experience in Excel or any reporting tool to validate data and generate reports (PowerPivot, Power BI).Desirable experience: The following experience is optional.
