About this position

We are looking for a consultant to provide operational and analytical support to the Gender and Diversity Division (GDI), with experience and expertise in exclusion based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). As an Operational and Analytical Consultant, you will work closely with GDI specialists in the (i) preparation of inputs to mainstream gender and diversity issues in IDB operations, (ii) design, execution, and monitoring of GDI operations; (iii) review and preparation of technical reports, (iii) collection of data and elaboration of knowledge products, and (iv) organization of dissemination and learning events.

You will work in the Gender and Diversity Division (GDI), which is part of the Social Sector (SCL). The team’s mission is to promote: (a) gender equality and empowerment, (b) development with identity of indigenous peoples, and (c) the inclusion of African descendants, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. It supports Bank operations, provides policy and strategic guidance, and carries out technical assistance and training.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute as a team member to GDI-led projects that support analytical work on issues related to LGBTQ+ inclusion and gender equality.
  • Actively contribute to the execution, administrative management, and technical support of activities and products defined in Technical Cooperation.
  • Support the preparation of Technical Cooperations’ annual reports, including key indicators and lessons learned, financial and results reports for donors.
  • Provide inputs and recommendations to reports prepared by external consultants.
  • Organize learning events for IDB staff and member countries to help disseminate knowledge on gender and diversity equality, with an emphasis on SOGI issues, and to strengthen mainstreaming capacity.
  • Provide technical support to IDB project teams from other sector divisions to mainstream a focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion in priority sectors (for example, social sectors, housing/urban development and/or citizen security).
  • Prepare country-level analytical inputs on gender and diversity issues (with a focus on LGBTQ+ populations) issues and policy options for IDB Country Development Challenges and Country Strategy documents.
  • Prepare technical inputs and dynamic presentations for IDB management on LGBTQ+ issues, as well as IDB gender equality and diversity mainstreaming work.
  • Provide inputs and prepare operational tools and knowledge products, including blogs, on LGBTQ+ populations and their inclusion in development programs.
  • Work with databases and data analysis.

    What you'll need

    • Education: Master’s degree in economics, public policy, international development, social sciences, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
    • Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of gender and diversity in development, with specific experience working on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ populations and mainstreaming gender and diversity issues into projects. Experience working on multilateral organizations preferred.
    • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

      • Demonstrated experience working on development projects and producing reports.
      • Familiarity with gender and/or diversity mainstreaming in operations.
      • Demonstrated experience in event organization.
      • Proficiency analyzing data and demonstrated experience on analytical work on gender and diversity and LGBTQ+ persons in LAC.

        Requirements

        • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
        • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
