Around 35 million people live in the coastal regions of Bangladesh, where water salinity is a major public health concern linked to high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and other environmental health risks. “The NIHR Global Health Research Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases and Environmental Change in Bangladesh”, hosted by icddr,b, is working to address this challenge. The Centre aims to assess whether strengthening primary health care for NCDs and introducing low-cost drinking water salinity mitigation solutions can reduce the risk of cardiovascular and kidney diseases in selected coastal areas of Khulna and Satkhira districts.

Position Description:

The Field Research Officer will report to the Senior Research Investigator and will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing field related project activities to conduct high-quality research considering organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in–

Lead and supervise the data collection team in conducting fieldwork and other research activities assigned by the supervisor. Plan and execute fieldwork, provide daily updates to the immediate supervisor, and troubleshoot field-related issues to ensure targets are met within the given timeline. Conduct periodic quality assurance of data collection, update field activity logs in the given format, and report to the supervisor. Conduct qualitative interviews, transcribe and analyze data using NVivo/Atlas.ti, and contribute to writing results. Liaise with relevant local stakeholders, including government and non-government actors (in health and water sectors), local government representatives, and NGOs. Support the supervisor in developing data collection tools, SOPs of data collection and quality assurance Contribute team in writing project-related reports and manuscripts.

Required qualifications and experience:

Master’s in Social Science preferably Anthropology/Sociology/other relevant fields. Candidates having Masters in Public Health will be given preference. 3 years of experience in the relevant field including leading and supervising data collection team.

Contract Type and Duration:

Contractual Services Agreement basis (CSA); duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to performance.

Salary & benefits:

Tk. 62,895/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
