The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until December 31, 2021. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The Welthungerhilfe country programme in Sierra Leone focuses on various sectors such as Agriculture/Food and Nutrition Security, WASH, Skills development and Renewable Energy. As Expert Programme Coordination you will be responsible for the implementation of project activities according to the specified deadlines/directives and strengthen the programme development with regard to approaches, networking, partners and donors.

Your responsibilities

  • Contributing towards the definition and orientation of the planned multiannual programme strategy within the thematic and related areas
  • Ensuring of feasibility, sustainability and exit strategies in projects
  • Writing proposals and reports for donor submission
  • Identifying co-financing opportunities and negotiating with donors in agreement with the Country Director and Head Office
  • Coordinating the preparation of internal project documents and ensuring the preparation of cost and financing plans
  • Identifying potential new project partners and ensuring active collaboration with partner organisations and their capacity building
  • Identifying lessons learnt from programmes and projects
  • Supporting medium-term financial planning for the region
  • Monitoring the humanitarian situation in the country
  • Representing Welthungerhilfe vis-à-vis other national and international, governmental and non-governmental stakehilders in agreement with the Country Director

Your profile

  • A university/polytechnic degree or business training in a related field like International studies
  • 2 to 5 years of project-relevant experience in the administration of projects of international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region
  • BMZ, DFID, EU and/or Irish Aid donor experience would be an advantage
  • Coordination and organisational skills - even under a high workload
  • Strong planning skills, ability to work under pressure and to deliver results in a challenging context
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • A very good knowledge of both spoken and written English; German language skills would be an asset
