The Strategy, Policy and Review Department (SPR) has an opening for an Economist/Senior Economist to work in the Inclusion and Gender Issues Unit (IG) within the SPR Front Office. The IG Unit’s main responsibilities include i) providing analytical and policy support to country teams and conducting analytical research on inclusion issues covering inequality, gender, and social spending issues and their synergies with other emerging issues such as climate change, fintech and digitalization; ii) implementing the gender strategy of the Fund; and iii) coordinating Fund-wide work and cooperation with external partners.

The unit’s work has a strong analytical and policy focus and is supported by a dedicated group of experts. The IG unit provides an excellent work environment that encourages initiative and independent thinking, combined with efforts to ensure adequate work-life balance.

The selected candidate will be involved in carrying out research and analytical work on inclusion issues relevant to the Fund work, including by providing support country teams and maintaining the application of the Multi-sector Incomplete Markets Macro Inequality.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have an advanced university degree (master’s degree) in economics, finance, or a related field with minimum of four years of relevant professional experience; excellent macroeconomic and analytical skills, interest in and the ability to do modeling work and cross-country empirical analysis, experience on distributional and inequality policy work, demonstrated ability to think originally, work independently, and execute tasks under tight deadlines. Experience in augmenting and calibrating macroeconomic models to country-specific circumstances would be a plus.

He/she should have excellent oral communication skills and the ability to draft concisely and persuasively. He/she must also have sound analytical, and data management abilities as well as possess strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

The candidate is expected to take on research/analytical work related to low-income countries, though he/she is not expected to have previous experience with this group of countries.

This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability and continuous business need.
