Working under the overall supervision of the Resources Management Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior Supply Chain Associate and the Supply Chain Assistant, and in close collaboration with relevant units, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for IOM The Gambia Country Office, with a special focus on vehicle operation, routine maintenance, and logistical support to programme activities. 

  • Drive IOM vehicle/s in accordance with the security and transportation procedures, ensuring safe and on time arrival of staff to the duty station/destinations and back as required; 

    • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle to ensure roadworthiness of the vehicles. This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.; 

      • Perform and arrange for minor repairs and ensure that the vehicles are kept clean and ready for use and always has full tank prior to departure for field trips; 

        • Keep records of spare parts for the vehicle and conduct monthly inventory of the spare parts; 

          • Ensure that vehicle undertakes regular service intervals/ regular checking of the vehicle parts; 

            • Find the most direct routing over the best available roads to the destination; 

              • Ensure to the extent possible, that the IOM vehicle(s) is used only for official/authorized business, as advised by the supervisor; 

                • Make sure that the daily log sheet is prepared and a monthly report is prepared summarizing statistics for mileage, fuel consumption, and usage (official and personal) etc.; 

                  • Keep a high degree of confidentiality and discreteness in discussions, which involves IOM and its officials; 

                    • Take proper precaution to reduce potential security threats to IOM officials or property within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and along transport routes; 

                      • Ensure compliance to local rules and regulations (pertaining to driving) are taken in case of involvement in accident; 

                        • Perform other related duties as may be assigned. 

                          1. ​​Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant professional experience.
                          2. ​Possess a valid driving license.​ 

                            Experience
                            •     Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs;
                            •     Previous experience with any UN agency or diplomatic missions would be an advantage;
                            •     Knowledge and experience with UN Security (radio checks, defensive driving) an advantage.
