Mission and objectivesIn the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, the World Food Programme (WFP) plays a critical role in supporting governments and partners to address the root causes of hunger and malnutrition, while also strengthening national responses to crises triggered by climatic events, economic instability, and other shocks. WFP maintains country offices across Central and South America and the Caribbean, each contributing to the organization's mission of achieving zero hunger. This regional portfolio is coordinated and supported by the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACRO), based in Panama. Within LACRO, the Communications Unit is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that span a wide range of technical areas, including emergency response, protection, gender equality, nutrition, social protection, school feeding, cash-based transfers, resilience building, climate change adaptation, and capacity strengthening. The unit ensures that all communications are aligned with both regional priorities and global strategic objectives, facilitating the dissemination of impactful and coherent messaging across platforms.

ContextThe selected online volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Communications Officer, providing support to various units within the Regional Bureau. The role is part of the Foodprints project, an initiative designed to transform complex data into human-centered narratives through interactive storytelling and data visualization. The project has conducted creative missions in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, collecting stories from smallholder farmers, innovative community initiatives, and school feeding programs. These stories serve as the foundation for a compelling visual narrative that will be shared across digital platforms, social media, and printed materials. To enhance this narrative, the assignment seeks a Graphic Illustrator who will be responsible for developing vector-based illustrations inspired by symbolic moments, key objects, and characters featured in the collected stories. These visuals will play a central role in engaging audiences and conveying the human impact of WFP’s work in the region.

Task DescriptionDesign vector illustrations based on characters and key moments from the collected stories. Create visual assets to complement videos, written content, and interactive website elements. Develop a consistent graphic style that aligns with the project’s visual identity. Deliver editable and optimized files suitable for various formats (web, print, social media). Participate in review sessions and incorporate feedback from the creative team.
