Mission and objectivesThe founders of the Africa Youths for peace and Development having seen harsh realities which are being experienced by the entire continent as a result of war and the consequent violence galore which follow, decided to form the organization with the vision of continental integration for peace and development for youths in the continent. It is the belief of this organization that violence achieves no meaningful goal. Africa Youth for Peace and Development organization was formed 1995 and was finally registered in the year 2000 under the ministry of youth and sport in Sierra Leone, as a voluntary, youth development organization that aims at organizing, empowering and creating opportunities for youths and Youths groups that are in difficult circumstances. To strengthen the capacity of youth to advocate for their rights and actively participate in community development
ContextThe TrueTalk Project is an embodiment of AYPAD’s overarching mission of youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and community transformation. Through writing and publishing, TrueTalk creates a platform where youth and marginalized voices are amplified, contributing to AYPAD’s goals of fostering equality, strengthening institutions, and addressing global challenges. By blending creativity and intellectual rigor, TrueTalk cultivates a new generation of thought leaders and changemakers committed to advancing both local and global development. By providing a platform for diverse perspectives and empowering writers to address issues like climate change, gender inequality, and social justice, TrueTalk fosters an environment where knowledge and creativity intersect to inspire change. The project also complements the work of entities like the World Bank and regional organizations advocating for sustainable development through education and community-driven solutions. Central to the success of TrueTalk is its integration within the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Program. Entirely run by volunteers, with the majority sourced from UNV, the project is a testament to the power of collective action and service. TrueTalk has built a sustainable model for empowering individuals and advancing knowledge-sharing. The UN’s commitment to fostering peace, justice, and development is mirrored in TrueTalk’s objectives and operations. TrueTalk stands as a powerful reminder of the role the United Nations and its affiliated initiatives play in promoting sustainable development, equity, and justice. By leveraging the UNV Program and aligning with AYPAD’s mission, TrueTalk is creating a platform where voices from diverse backgrounds can converge to create a better, more equitable world.
