A. Objective and main functions
In the framework of the 42 C/5 major programme and within the Amazon Project and under the overall supervision of the Director of the Ecological and Earth Sciences Division (SC/EES) and the direct supervision of the SC/EES/NBC Chief of Section, the consultant will support the implementation, coordination and monitoring of the project at the local level in the Estación Biológica del Beni (EBB) and Pilón Lajas Biosphere Reserves. The tasks agreed under the contract must be coordinated with UNESCO, the Bolivian MAB Focal Point and the Biosphere Reserves, the Scientific Committee, the implementing partner(s) and key stakeholders to ensure implementation, follow-up and monitoring according to the Biosphere Reserves' work plans and provide continuous support to achieve high quality results according to the agreed deadlines and indicators.
1. Coordinate and oversee with the various stakeholders the implementation of project activities and ensure that they are carried out as planned and within the established deadlines. Update factsheet with indicators to evaluate the activities monthly.
2. Support the fire-related activities within the biosphere reserves: organize mission, draft summary reports, development of the integrated fire management action plan.
3. Support the implementation of the two prototypes, capacity-building and collection of data regarding the regenerative design activity.
4. Conduct a survey to the biosphere reserves youth to understand their needs and propose activities / capacitation events within the project.
5. Map the potential youth to propose the creation of a youth network.
6. Conduct at least 2 capacitation workshops on the MAB Programme, biosphere reserves territorial governance, territorial governance and women's and youth leadership to the biosphere reserves, management, rangers and the communities of the Beni and Pilón Lajas Biosphere Reserves.
7. Identify and analyse potential risks and challenges that could impact project implementation on the ground and propose project adjustments as needed.
8. Development of digital communication material (posts, photos and short videos) about the activities carried out in the biosphere reserves for dissemination on social networks in accordance with UNESCO guidelines and for dissemination to UNESCO and the biosphere reserves.
B. Main deliverables
The contract with UNESCO will be of 11 months from February to December 2025. Reports must be monthly and must include a detailed description of the activities carried out, the expected results and/or impact indicators set out in the monitoring factsheet, photos and/or videos, minutes and invoices where applicable. The consultant should make at least four on-site visits during the contract period. The main products are:
