Work LocationParis Expected duration12 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe consultant will support the Finance Unit in enhancing international and private-sector engagement in clean energy and climate change mitigation investments. As a member of an eight-person team within the Mitigation Branch, the consultant will play a critical role in advancing the Unit's objectives through strategic communication and targeted donor outreach. Their duties will include but are not limited to: 1. Enhancing the Visibility of the Unit’s Projects on a Global Scale The consultant will work to increase the visibility of the Unit’s projects by aligning with UNEP’s 2025 global campaigns and other media opportunities to highlight key issues related to climate change and renewable energy. Specific tasks include: • Implementation of the Communication Strategy: Executing the approved strategy in coordination with the Unit’s broader objectives. • Collaboration with UNEP’s Communication Team: Engaging proactively with UNEP's communications staff to amplify messaging. • Development of Presentation Materials: Creating a comprehensive presentation package, including slide decks and project briefs that align with donor priorities. • Publication of Thought Leadership: Developing and publishing at least one opinion piece in a reputable magazine or newspaper, addressing relevant renewable energy and climate topics. • Securing Speaking Opportunities: Securing a minimum of two speaking engagements at prominent international or regional renewable energy and climate events. • Organizing Donor Engagement Activities: Facilitating at least one roundtable with potential donors, along with a series of targeted calls to foster donor relationships and support for Unit initiatives. 2. Developing a Communication and Donor Engagement Strategy The consultant will design and implement a comprehensive strategy to enhance donor engagement and outreach efforts throughout 2025, aligned with the Unit's fundraising goals. This will involve identifying and leveraging both the consultant’s own professional network and the Unit’s existing projects. Key tasks include: • Mapping potential communication and outreach opportunities, including events, key meetings, milestone reports, relevant publications, and individual donor contacts. • Identifying strategic opportunities such as speaking engagements, team participation in high-profile events, publication of articles, case studies, or success stories in relevant media outlets, and organizing donor roundtables. • Prioritizing communication materials based on anticipated impact, creating a donor mapping document that aligns climate-related priorities with potential bilateral donor interests to optimize engagement. Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced degree in environmental affairs, development studies, communications, or related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Professional experience is required as follows: • Working experience in producing policy briefings, case studies, articles, or other knowledge managements products used to facilitate the communication of complex climate change mitigation/renewable energy financing information to a variety of audiences including government officials and development partners; • Experience in strategically developing and maintaining a network across the climate space to increase visibility and disseminate communication products effectively, including with donors, government officials and development partners; • Work experience on projects financed by international organizations or UN agencies will be an asset LanguagesWritten and spoken proficiency in English Additional InformationNot available.
