The International Monetary Fund has an immediate opening for a Capacity Development Officer (Instructional Designer) in the Institute for Capacity Development’s Institute Training Program division (ICDIP) to support the IMF’s mission of delivering capacity development through training to member country officials on key topics. This covers a range of topics, including macroeconomic analysis to monetary and fiscal policy, macro-financial linkages, balance of payments issues, financial markets and institutions, as well as statistical and legal frameworks. The IMF’s online program is dedicated to increasing access to high-quality training through free online courses and other flexible modalities.
Main duties and responsibilities:
In this role, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with subject matter experts across the IMF to assess learner needs and design engaging, innovative online courses and learning products in a variety of formats. In addition to facilitating the development of massive open online courses (MOOCs), the Instructional designer will support the creation of microlearning content, as well as in-person, blended and hybrid training materials for both external audiences and the Internal Economics Training program. The ideal candidate will apply best practices in instructional design, adult learning principles, and pedagogical design to create a high-quality and engaging learning experience for member country officials, and will have significant familiarity with a range of Learning Management Systems.

The selected candidate will also be expected to help spearhead and promote learner-centric instructional design approaches for both external and internal training. This includes recommending and implementing innovative learning methodologies and technologies, policies, and procedures that will contribute to the overall work program of ICDIP.
Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree, or equivalent, in instructional design, instructional technology, education, communications, learning sciences; or a bachelor's degree, supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience is required.
The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies, including a minimum of two years of experience with learning management systems, online authoring tools that support SCORM (including Articulate 360) and multimedia creation tools (including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop); experience in effective collaboration with subject matter experts; knowledge of best practices in online pedagogy; strong project management skills; knowledge of assessment and evaluation strategies and designing and leading workshops and other professional development opportunities for subject matter experts.
The candidate should possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; show initiative and acute attention to detail; have the ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively; and be able to work under pressure both independently and as part of a team. A proven track record of innovation and creativity is highly desirable.
This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
