Terms of ReferenceIt is a Local Home-Based Contract from any country within the Americas, reporting to the Regional Bureau for the Americas based in Panama.

1. General Background

The Audiovisual Producer and design Assistant is normally supervised by a Communication Officer or other position as decided by the senior management in the area of responsibility.

The supervisor provides the incumbent with regular guidance.

The incumbent works quite independently on regular assignments with an oversight from the supervisor.

The incumbent keeps frequent contacts with staff at various levels in the office and with staff in other duty stations and/or Headquarters; with media officers, local suppliers, NGO, implementing partners, embassies and UN agencies.

The Audiovisual Producer and Design Assistant, depending on the organizational structure and location, may also be required to provide support in executing a range of communications activities in the fields of news and media relations, multimedia content production, social media engagement, video production, Goodwill Ambassadors and other influencers, public outreach and campaigns, fundraising, analytics and brand.

The incumbents may also be required to help strengthen coordination and editorial planning in the area of responsibility, support advocacy, awareness-raising and digital fundraising efforts as well as strengthening analytics to inform the social media strategies and work plans. All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. They do so within their delegated authorities, in line with the regulatory framework of UNHCR which includes the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability frameworks. 2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

• Produce and edit strong audiovisual content about UNHCR work from conception to output (pre-production, production, filming, scripting and editing), for broadcast, social/digital platforms and partnerships.
• Produce and edit video stories, explainers, and animations to enhance UNHCR’s profile on key issues to support the advocacy, fundraising and visibility efforts of the office, and to engage the public.
• Use UNHCR templates and Adobe CC software to develop, produce and edit engaging video stories, explainers and animations tailored for multiple social media platforms, communication channels and audiences with tight deadlines and in multiple languages.
• Support the development and commissioning of a variety range of multimedia assets.
• Re-version video stories, explainers and animations into different formats for varied needs across communication platforms.
• Conduct online training sessions focused on multimedia content production aimed at instructing video editors, designers, and communication colleagues at UNHCR.
• Liaises with other divisions/units and regional / country offices to ensure the organization's development and timely delivery of multimedia communication materials timely delivery of multimedia communication materials for the Organization.
• Support the implementation of communications strategies for countries, situations and special projects within the area of responsibility; help identify thematic priorities and target audiences to meet UNHCR's global, regional and country-level communications objectives of leading the narrative, generating empathy and mobilizing action for forcibly displaced and stateless people.
• Monitor news and popular trends to insert UNHCR's messaging into ongoing conversations; identify key moments for proactive communications.
• Help forge strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations who can help produce and promote UNHCR content, activities and messaging as well as provide research insights to improve communications; and promote the work of engaged businesses and civil society actors.
• Support the development of news-driven and authoritative content to lead the narrative on forced displacement and show UNHCR's impact (e.g. interviews, press releases, flagship reports, speeches), create emotive storytelling to generate empathy (e.g. stories, multimedia content) and mobilize action by signposting concrete steps people can take to help refugees (e.g. digital diplomacy, action-driven campaigns, fundraising).
• Help monitor the implementation of communications projects and adjust accordingly.
• Continually maintain and upgrade communications skills, keeping abreast of emerging platforms and tools, and systematically reviewing media impact results and other measurement tools for learning purposes.
• May be required to assist in the implementation of campaigns, events, and other initiatives in support of UNHCR's strategic objectives, including its need for a leading share of voice on refugees and related matters.
• May be required to undertake missions and field trips with media and other official visitors in support of UNHCR and its work.
• Perform other related duties as required.

3. Monitoring and Progress Controls

The Audiovisual Producer and Design Assistant will report to the Associate Video Production Officer, who will monitor the project's progress against the expected outcome and will evaluate the incumbent’s overall performance. The project’s expected outcome will be a timely and efficient audiovisual content production and editing, according to the purpose and scope of the assignment, as described above, and in line with the Communication Strategy and established priorities of UNHCR’s Regional Bureau for the Americas and the Caribbean.

4. Qualifications and Experience

3 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher Field(s) of Education.

a. Education

Certificates and/or Licenses Journalism, Social Sciences, Humanities or related fields.

b. Work experience and key competencies

• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Advanced skills in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
• Demonstrated experience in producing, filming, and editing video content (stories, explainers, and animations) for platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, among others.
• Proven experience in social media content production.
• Experience in implementing communication strategies is preferred.
• Familiarity with Canva is a plus.
• Experience in advocacy campaigns.
• Advanced fluency in Spanish and English; proficiency in Portuguese is an asset.

c. Desired skills

• Video production for digital platforms, including news outlets.
• Editing, drafting, translation, and localization skills.
• Experience in digital content production, including the design and creation of social media assets.
• Skills in layout and design for reports, leaflets, and publications.
• Web content management expertise.
