The Accounting Assistant has the overall responsibility of ensuring that all cash and travel advances are accounted for as per IITA policies and procedures. The position reports to the Project Manager and the Financial Controller \u2013 Internal Control and Systems in terms of Financial Policies.

Responsibilities: Prepare monthly imprest reports and bank reconciliation reports Custodian of accounting documents- i.e. files for payment and journal vouchers, travel and cash advances Monitor and control the cash advances and follow up staff advances to ensure retirements are done on time. Process monthly payroll for NRS project staff Ensure prompt payment of government taxes for NRS (PAYE, Pension Funds) and any other approved official transactions. Assist in the reconciliation of the IITA staff welfare records. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

A bachelor\u2019s degree or Advanced Diploma in accounting or finance from a recognized higher institution of learning with at least 2 years of accounting experience with an International organization.

Competencies

The ideal Candidate must:

Demonstrate strong knowledge of standard accounting practices (GAAP) and basic financial management. Have working knowledge of accounting package such as Oracle system or other ERP accounting software. Have knowledge of accounting principles and procedures Have advanced proficiency in MS Office- Including Word and Excel. Have ability to multi-task, manage time and keep records Be able to work independently with minimal supervision and a high level of integrity Have strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies Possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Have ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
