PSI is deepening its work on social dialogue and GBV in the Arab subregion through project support:

  • The work on social dialogue focuses on strategic planning for social dialogue opportunities for PSI affiliates in Lebanon and Jordan and aims at strengthening the capacity of trade unions to defend workers’ rights, and ensure access to quality public services for all.
  • The work on GBV focuses on campaigning for the ratification of C190 in the Middle East and North African Countries and aims at raising the awareness of PSI affiliates especially in Egypt and Tunisia on the importance of the ratification of C190, and at building their capacities in terms of campaigning, lobbying and advocating.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for implementing this project work together with the affiliates and potential allies under the direction of the Acting Subregional Secretary for Arab Countries.

Knowledge of international labour standards, experience working with trade unions in the region, as well as of project management and campaigning are key requirements for this position.

The Coordinator’s duty station will be Beirut, Lebanon. S/he should expect to start as soon as possible, based on a fixed term contract until 31st December 2020, with possible extension beyond this date subject to funding continuity.

Overall Responsibilities:

The Project Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of PSI policy through project work in the areas of Social Dialogue and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) for workers delivering public services in the Arab Subregion. S/he will work with relevant trade unions, relevant bodies and other allies, in order to successfully promote social justice and equality.

The PSI Social Dialogue project (“Strategic planning for social dialogue opportunities for PSI trade unions in Lebanon and Jordan”) is aiming at strengthening the capacity of trade unions to defend their workers’ rights, and ensure access to public services for all through developing strategic plans to revitalize the process of collective bargaining and social dialogue.

The PSI GBV project (“Campaigning for the Ratification of C190 in the Middle East and North African Countries”) is aiming at raising the awareness of PSI affiliates in Egypt and Tunisia on the importance of the ratification of C190 and at building their capacities in terms of campaigning, lobbying and advocating to fight Gender-Based Violence.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Project Cycle Management

• Plan activities, participate in the definition of activity planning and validation tools (terms of reference, operational budgets) and ensure their execution, respecting the project deadline, and taking into account the outputs and indicators defined in the project proposal

• Lead and supervise the other project team members, mainly the National Coordinating Committee (NCCs)

• Provide strategic advice to the team members as well as to the project stakeholders on the necessary actions to be taken for the delivery of the expected project outputs

• Prepare regular project activity and contract reports•Coordinate necessary researches on social dialogue and gender-based violence

• Implement a monitoring, learning and evaluation strategy: tools, methodologies and activities

• Ensure all deliverables of the project, including narrative reporting and indicators

2) Finance and Administration

• Draft annual operational budget

• Oversee project funds and maintain required project administration in compliance with the Solidarity Support Organisation’s rules

• Monitor programme budgets by regularly monitoring the status of expenditures against allocated budgets and programmatic forecasts

3) Communication and Representation

• Ensure internal and external communication

• Draft reports for PSI governance bodies

• Provide media content for mainstream social media and union-targeted communications

• Represent PSI to affiliates and in other forums where necessary

4) Other Duties

• As assigned by the Regional Secretary, the Acting Subregional Secretary for Arab Countries or Head Office Union Development Department
