Back Program Manager, PREPARE Mexico

Overview

Miyamoto’s structural engineers and international development specialists design and assess new and existing infrastructure to analyze specific vulnerabilities to disasters. Using rigorous risk assessments, Miyamoto develops protocols and recommendations for disaster-resilient retrofits and new construction on public and private structures, such as schools, bridges, marketplaces, hospitals, housing, and critical infrastructure.

Miyamoto’s experts work with local partners to develop comprehensive urban preparedness and risk-reduction procedures to ensure efficient response and recovery for future disasters. This work intentionally builds capacity in targeted regions, with Miyamoto’s technical team acting as a catalyst to support and train local experts, leaders and laborers. Miyamoto leads with world-class technical inputs to help governments and communities turn data into decisions that mitigate damage, increase preparedness, sustain economies, and save lives.

Responsibilities

The PREPARE Mexico Program Manager will be based in Guadalajara/Zapopan, Mexico. He/she will report to the Regional Program Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Washington, D.C. The PREPARE Mexico PM will also receive support from Miyamoto’s International Development Unit, including engineers and risk management specialists based in the U.S. and throughout the region.

The PREPARE Mexico PM is responsible for the overall timely and quality delivery for all program deliverables and activities in Guadalajara/Zapopan, Mexico.

This includes, but is not limited to the following:

Engagement and coordination with national and local stakeholders.

• Budget and work planning aligned with program strategy.
• Program monitoring and evaluation, including baseline assessment and final evaluation.
• Design and implementation of workshops, trainings and conferences.
• Data collection and information management for internal and donor reports.
• Procurement and management of professional services providers and technical experts.
• Development of key message and communications tools, including success stories and content for social media.
• Represent Miyamoto and PREPARE Mexico with high-level partners in Guadalajara/Zapopan.
• Serve as security focal point for the PREPARE Mexico in Guadalajara/Zapopan.

Candidate Profile

The desired candidate will have a minimum of 5-8 years professional experience managing USAID or other externally-funded international development programs in Mexico. Mexican Nationals strongly preferred.

Education

• University degree in engineering, public policy, international affairs/development or relevant field. Graduate degree preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Advanced knowledge of disaster risk management principles and concepts, particularly as they relate to earthquake risk.
• Advanced knowledge of construction best practices, particularly as they relate to resilient infrastructure and techniques to strengthen seismic resistance.
• Demonstrated ability and experience working with government counterparts and leading high-level partner meetings.
• Demonstrated ability and experience facilitating technical discussions involving diverse government and private sector stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability and experience researching, editing and writing strategy/technical documents, policy papers and program reports.
• Advanced knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methods and tools.
• Familiarity with USAID rules and regulations for grant management strongly preferred.
• English language proficiency strongly preferred.
