1.     Organizational Context

 

a.    Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Department for Development Cooperation of the Regional and National Development Sector.

 

The Senior Coordinator is responsible for proposing the strategic guidelines of the technical assistance provided to developed countries, developing countries, countries in transition and least-developed countries in the field of copyright and related rights.

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

The Senior Coordinator works closely with the Directors of Regional Divisions to analyze the needs of countries in the field of copyright and related rights, to allow for the development of a meaningful, adequate and impactful cooperation agenda, in accordance with the WIPO Results Framework.

 

c.    Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Senior Director of the Department for Development Cooperation.

 

d.    Work Relations

 

The Senior Coordinator works closely the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector on substantive copyright issues.

 

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

 

a.   Provide strategic guidance, support, and advice to the Regional Divisions on the design, programming, budgeting, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of technical assistance and capacity building projects and activities in the field of copyright and related rights.

 

b.   In coordination with Regional Divisions, provide strategic policy advice to Member States with respect to the incorporation of copyright and related rights.

 

c.   Liaise closely with Regional Divisions and WIPO work areas including the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector and other Sectors in driving forward the implementation of WIPO's mandate with respect to copyright and related rights.

 

d.   Provide strategic guidance, support and advice to the Regional Divisions, in coordination with the News and Media Division, on the effective communication of the impact of projects and activities concerning copyright and related rights for growth and development around the world.

 

e.   Represent the Department and Sector at technical assistance and capacity building programs and other related international and national meetings, seminars, or conferences.

 

f.    Provide strategic advice for the strengthening of meaningful alliances and partnerships with Member States, organizations and associations and the private sector on issues relating to technical assistance in the field of copyright and related rights.

 

g.   Perform such other duties as required.

 

 

3.      Requirements

 

Education (Essential)

Advanced university degree in law, economics, international relations, development studies or related discipline. A first-level university degree plus two years of relevant experience in addition to the experience requested below may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Experience (Essential)

At least ten years' relevant professional work experience in international cooperation, development or related area, including substantive experience in activities in the field of copyright and related rights.

 

Experience (Desirable)

Experience with Results-Based Management and project management.

 

Experience in the field of IP cooperation for development.

 

Language (Essential)

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.

 

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of other official UN languages.
