Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
WFP is working to support and implement humanitarian interactions and interventions in Amhara in light of the current security and humanitarian situations. Not only have safety and security issues intensified, but more importantly, access efforts have grown. WFP has an office in Gondar which is also a Logistics hub, currently hosting more than 90 WFP fleet trucks. The Gondar office is implementing 4 activities: Nutrition, School Meals, refugees, and relief in North Gondar, Central Gondar, Western Gondar and the Northwest contested woredas. Gondar Sub-office requires an individual with a required skillset and expertise in security who will be based in the duty station be able to keep track of any changes in the threat environment, and also comprehend the threat specificity on WFP personnel, assets, and operations so that the office can execute its mission towards its targeted beneficiaries.
The purpose of this role is, on account of her/his grasp of training, experience, and education in the operational setting, the LSA (Local Security Associate) would be able to determine whether the security risk management measures recommended are appropriate. Moreover, the LSA would be a key player in access connections, whether or not it would constantly maintain a triangular nexus of programmes, logistics, and security. The LSA would function as an entry-and-security intermediary with regional government authorities, thus making access facilitation and security risk management simpler.
The job is based in the Amhara region, specifically at Gondar Sub office and the job holder at this level demonstrates responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis. Job holders are expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate a team of security support staff.
The LSA is expected to perform tasks related to the implementation and assessment of security measures and maintenance of equipment with a view towards providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making and secure WFP staff, facilities and operations.
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.
EXPERIENCE: At least 6 years of relevant work experience in a humanitarian context
LANGUAGE: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the English and Amharic language
