Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing and promoting socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements, development, and the achievement of adequate shelter for all ( https://www.unhabitat.org ). The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the Agency for human settlements mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable cities and towns with the aim of providing adequate housing for all. The internship position is located at the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Africa (ROAF) based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The intern will work in close collaboration with the team in charge of projects implementation, and will participate in the communication and visibility of projects/programs. The intern will support the documentation, production of web stories, conception of communication tools, and monitoring of activities and projects. The Intern will have the opportunity to learn and support the overall work of the UN-Habitat’s mission. Activities will vary depending on the requirements of the assignment. He/she will report to the Head of Office in the DRC and in charge of the Central Africa sub-region. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days a week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of the ROAF Program Management Officer based in Kinshasa. Responsibilities The daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's office of assignment as well as the internship period. • Under the supervision of the Head of Office in the DRC, the intern will perform the following duties: • Support Communication and Project Reporting; • Contribute to develop and support partnerships; • Support research and knowledge management; • Provide assistance for operations activities Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: MBA, 4th year undergraduate, or PhD in Communications, Information technology, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Public Information or any other related field of study. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
