Background:

FHI 360 is seeking qualified candidates for a Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GYSI) Specialist position for a community nutrition activity in Ethiopia. The Activity focuses on enhancing multisector coordination and accountability; improving nutrition practices and health-seeking behaviors; and strengthening delivery of quality nutrition services within USAID’s Feed the Future Zones of Influence.

Job Summary:

The Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GYSI) Specialist position will provide communication and operational support to the Feed the Future Ethiopia Community Nutrition Activity. The Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GYSI) Specialist will provide support, mentoring, and expert advice to project leadership and USAID implementing partners to ensure that gender and youth inclusion issues are appropriately incorporated into activity design and implementation and that necessary data is tracked, monitored, and reported. They will design and lead trainings to build gender capacity and awareness of social inclusion approaches and issues.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical support, mentoring, and expert advice to other members of the project team, implementing partners, and Ethiopian stakeholders to ensure that gender, youth, and inclusion issues are appropriately incorporated into activity design and implementation.
  • Ensure that necessary data related to gender, youth, and social inclusion is tracked, monitored and reported.
  • Integrate gender and inclusion lenses into research design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure gender and inclusion considerations are integrated into learning agendas and collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA) approaches.
  • Contribute to technical knowledge of good practices and gender-related gaps that can be used for performance analysis, review/adaptation of strategies and new approaches.
  • Design and lead trainings to build gender capacity and awareness and strengthen stakeholder competencies in gender and inclusion issues.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of GYSI to measure progress and improve project activities.
  • Lead the development of diverse tools including material, scripts, guidelines and gender standards to support project interventions.

    Applied Knowledge & Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with providing technical support for research studies.
    • Development of scope of work and deliverables for partners, consultants, etc.
    • Broader knowledge of quality standards
    • Proficiency with database management software and on-line search tools required.

            Education:

            • Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, the Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology and Youth or a Related Field.

              Experience:

              • A minimum of 6+ years’ experience supporting gender and inclusion issues, ideally on USAID-funded projects.
              • Familiarity with USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy and Evaluation Policy preferred.
              • A minimum of three years’ experience training/facilitating large groups.
              • Proven ability to ensure gender diagnostics and integration in project strategy design, implementation and M&E.
              • Ability to act as a mentor and promoter of technical assistance.
              • Ability to manage sensitive situations and maintain constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and government.
              • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and convey your vision to partners and colleagues.
              • Excellent analytical ability and organizational skills including materials development.
              • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse staff and stakeholders.
              • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

                Typical Physical Demands:

                • Typical office environment.
                • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
                • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

                  Technology to be Used:

                  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

                    Travel Requirements:

                    • 10% - 25%
