Project Summary

The goal of this Activity is to improve the quality and sustainability of water and sanitation services for rural residents in Sikasso, Bougouni, and Koutiala Regions, including the underserved and most vulnerable, by building the capacity of key stakeholders to construct, maintain, and sustainably manage safe and reliable water and sanitation systems, as well as to develop and implement Commune-level Sanitation Strategic Plans.

Reporting & Supervision:

This position reports to the Chief of Party.

Responsibilities

The Deputy Chief of Party will serve as acting Chief of Party and as the principal point of contact for all procedural and substantive matters in the absence of the COP. The DCOP will provide technical WASH engineering expertise and input into the design and implementation of water and sanitation systems as well as manage a team of field engineers.

The DCOP will also be responsible for key administrative management and activity operations. The Deputy Chief of Party provides technical and administrative support and expertise to the project, serves as lead in the absence of the COP, and serves as a significant liaison with the donor, other implementing partners, other donors, and any other key stakeholders. The DCOP will have demonstrated ability to work in complex environments and manage diverse teams to deliver impactful programming.**Qualifications**

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or construction management;
  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated technical expertise on USAID or USG-funded programming, with substantial developing country context experience, in a combination of the following technical areas: community participation, rural WASH, behavior change, governance, institutional development, and private sector engagement;
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated excellence in a management and leadership position in a WASH construction activity;
  • Previous experience with projects of a similar magnitude and complexity;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of government and civil society, counterparts, and donor and UN partners; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
