Your responsibilities

The CMS \"Data Management\" team is looking for a highly motivated and skilled DevOps Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in developing, operating and evolving the data management system of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment at CERN.

Our group is involved in the development of the computing tools used to deliver the datasets necessary for physics analysis and discoveries as well as their operation at scale on the WLCG Computing Grid. We manage more than half an Exabyte of tape storage, 250 PB of disk, and about half a million CPU cores, provided by various data centers including High Performance Computers. Centrally, we ensure that data processing jobs are run correctly and their output is safely stored.

The selected candidate will join the data management operations and development activities in the Computing (CO) section of the CMG group which manages mass scientific data at the scale of 500k transfers (~1 PB) daily across a grid of more than 50 computing sites. As a DevOps Engineer, you will: Maintain, develop and operate the Rucio-based data management system of CMS, adapting it to the new needs arising on the way to Run 4. Interface to the development teams of major computing tools such as Rucio and communicate with inter-experimental initiatives such as the ones organised by WLCG.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science, Physics studies (or a related field) by the application deadline.Your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before. Applicants without University degree are not eligible.Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
