Background:

FHI 360 is seeking qualified candidates for a Communication Specialist position for a community nutrition activity in Ethiopia. The Activity focuses on enhancing multisector coordination and accountability; improving nutrition practices and health-seeking behaviors; and strengthening delivery of quality nutrition services within USAID’s Feed the Future Zones of Influence.

Job Summary:

The Communication Specialist will provide communication and operational support to the Feed the Future Ethiopia Community Nutrition Activity. The Communication Specialist will implement the Activity day-to-day communication strategy, which will include developing project material, newsletters, media content and enhancing promotional efforts as needed. They will also be responsible for supporting meeting planning and coordinating.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop internal and external project communications plan.
  • Ensure quality control of internal and external communications products including periodic reports, newsletters and presentations.
  • Research, develop and edit a broad range of communication materials for the project.
  • Support the coordination of in-person and virtual workshops and meetings, including developing agendas and inviting guest speakers.
  • Support the preparation of speeches, talking points, slide presentations, images, briefers, press releases, and pitches for a wide range of events.
  • Attend regular Communications Team meetings and ensure working relationships with all project team leaders.
  • Provide copy editing support, as requested.
  • Provide responsive branding guidance to the project and ensure branding and marking compliance.
  • Liaise directly with donors, government and FHI 360’s country and regional offices, as appropriate.

    • Knowledge and experience in communications related to international public health and/or development.

          Education:

          • Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent in English, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or Related Field.

            Experience:

            • · Minimum 8 years of related experience in communications for development (familiarity with USAID programming and communications preferred).

              · Excellent computer literacy with capability in email, MS Office suite and related business and communication tools

              · Strong editing and proofing skills. Ability to communicate written and orally in a succinct, clear, persuasive manner

              · Strong communication and writing skills in Amharic and English

              · Superior organizational skills and acute attention to detail

              · Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills. Detail oriented, meticulous, and well organized

              · Proficiency in content creation tools and graphic design is beneficial

              Typical Physical Demands:

              • Typical office environment.
              • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
              • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

                Technology to be Used:

                • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

                  Travel Requirements:

                  • Less than 10%
