UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the Lima Field Office at UNHCR Pueblo Libre, Lima, PERU.

Organizational context

The UNHCR Office in Peru directly serves the immense Venezuelan population that has been arriving in the country and joins the multiple efforts made by the international community to provide protection and assistance. The Lima Field Office provides direct attention to the population that UNHCR serves for the comprehensive evaluation of their specific protection needs and monitoring their access to rights and services. Cases are registered and referred to specialized partners from Monday to Friday at defined times. Lima is the most populated urban center in Peru with a population of refugees and migrants that exceeds one million people, which presents a challenge for case management and protection response.

The position

The Field Office in Pueblo Libre, Lima - Peru, requires two interns to support the daily care of people who come to the office, registration in the proGres v4 platform to start a management case from UNHCR and the implementing partner, for this the intern will identify specific protection needs and, if relevant, cases will be referred to the UNHCR focal points.

Duties and responsibilities

The activities that the intern will develop focus mainly on:
• Attend cases at the UNHCR Field Office in Lima in person at a defined time.
• Register cases on the proGres V4 platform.
• Identify and record the specific protection needs of each case.
• Make the corresponding referrals to the UNHCR focal points for each case.
• Prepare monthly qualitative and qualitative reports on the processes, results and challenges of office care and referral of cases to partners.
• Ensure data quality.
• Carry out other administrative, informational and coordination tasks complementary to the attention of cases.

Requirements
• Recent graduate or student in the last semesters of bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in political science, International Affairs, International Development, Law or other relevant field;
• Demonstrable interest in topics related to refugees and forced displacements.
• Working knowledge of English (B2 in all four competencies).
• Fluent Spanish and working knowledge of English are basic requirements for the position.
• Good level of knowledge of data recording platforms (Excel, KoBo, others).
• Intermediate level knowledge of data visualization (PowerBI or others) is desirable.

Minimum qualifications required

To be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.

NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Desirable qualifications and skills

• Competencies:

o Excellent interpersonal relationships, ability to work as a team, responsibility and discipline, high degree of confidentiality, conduct and ethical principles that allow you to maintain impartiality and interact appropriately with international/national officials, maintaining respect for different cultures and ideas.
Conditions
It is a full role with working hours starting from 8.30 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30 am to 2:00 pm Friday. The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Pueblo Libre, Lima.

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.

 UNHCR is not responsible for the intern's medical insurance or costs associated with accidents or illnesses incurred during the internship.
 Acceptance of the internship will be subject to the presentation of medical and accident insurance, valid for the place where the internship will take place, as well as all other documents required for the attachment of interns.
 If the Security Risk Assessment (SRA) changes during the execution of the internship, there is the possibility that it will be suspended to protect the integrity of the intern.
 Under no circumstances may the intern go on a mission. This includes any off-site location where the internship is accepted.
 At the end of the internship period, the intern must submit a report approved by his/her supervisor and will receive an internship certificate.
