You will be part of:
The Accelerator Systems Department (SY), responsible for a series of the accelerator beam-related technical systems.
The Beam Instrumentation Group (BI) , which is responsible for designed, building and maintaining the instruments that allow the measurement of beam related parameters for all CERN accelerators and transfer lines. In particular, the SY-BI-BL Section is dedicated to beam loss measurements.

The project focuses on Large Hadron Collider (LHC) operational beam loss thresholds studies.

In particular you will:

review beam loss scenarios for the proton and ion run and propose and implement beam loss thresholds with the aim of improving machine protection and performance;continue follow up of the beam losses evolution, comparing ionisation chambers with diamond detectors;actively contribute to beam commissioning and the planned Machine Developments relevant for beam loss studies and participate to the measurements; integrate High Luminosity Beam Loss Monitors.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
