Work LocationNairobi, Kenya Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesAbout UN-Habitat UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Urban Practices Branch (UPB) is the tools and methodology production center of the UN- Habitat that develops normative guidance and cutting-edge tools through communities of urban practices and is the operational level responsible to undertake technical cooperation projects, such as the construction of water and sanitation facilities, shelter and other work. The Planning, Finance & Economy Section (PFES) is responsible to support urban and territorial planning at all scales including through the development of planning policy, norms and guidelines, urban design and public space design, urban finance (municipal finance and urban development/projects finance), and local economic development. Our City Plans is a global toolbox and digital platform that guides and supports local governments and urban actors to better understand, customise, and develop inclusive and integrated urban planning processes, using a participatory and incremental methodology that adapts to their needs and local context. Reporting and Communication The Web Development Consultant will be hired to collaborate closely with the Our City Plans team of PFES and other related projects. He/she will be reporting to the team lead on Our City Plans. Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Programme Lead on Our City Plans, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties within Our City Plans digital platform, developed in Drupal: • Design and develop new functionalities according to user feedback and data gathered, including back-end and front-end development. • Build and develop new Drupal modules, adjust and update existing modules and content. • Deploy updates, maintenance, configurations, technical support and quality control of the site using Drupal as Content Management System and back end. • Develop and update the site based considering user-friendly design, responsive design on various types of devices, accessibility standards, browser compatibility and optimal performance in low-bandwidth locations. • Manage data analytics and hosting services. • Build prototypes for testing and user testing and feedback. Qualifications/special skillsAcademic Qualification: First Level university degree in Computer Science, Web Development, UX/UI Design, or a related field is required. Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in web development and expertise on Drupal is required. Experience on UX/UI is highly desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this advertised position fluency in English is required.
