USAID Enhancing Quality of Healthcare Activity (EQHA) II is a five-year project (October 23, 2023 – October 22, 2028) led by FHI 360 and partnership with KHANA, Kawsang, ThinkWell, and Data Elevates that aims to further improve and sustain service quality by strengthening a harmonized Cambodian high quality health system that will lead to better health outcomes for all Cambodians.

EQHA II builds on the successes to date of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and development partners and aim at achieving three objectives:

Improved evidence-based policy, guidelines, strategies for more effective and efficient health systems Improved individual and institutional capacity of the public and private sectors to implement, monitor, and evaluate QA according to the national standards Improved individual and institutional capacity of subnational health systems to provide quality services to address emerging national program priorities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Translation and Interpretation Officer will be working under the supervision of Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist. S/he will create high quality Khmer/English translations for project generated technical documents, letters and other health related communication materials and interpret Khmer/English and English/Khmer discussions to support the EQHA II project staff and Senior Management Team during seminars, teleconferences, workshop/meetings as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Reviews and re-writes technical documents in specified language, following established rules pertaining to factors such as word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
  • Serves as interpreter at seminars, speeches, meetings, teleconferences, and symposia, providing consecutive or simultaneous translation between languages.
  • Listens to complete statements in one language, interprets to second, and interprets responses from second into first language.
  • In simultaneous interpreting, renders oral communication of presentation or discussion concurrently with dialogue.
  • Receives briefing or prepares through reading and study on subject to be discussed prior to interpreting session.
  • Support SMT on drafting administrative letters in English and taking meeting minutes, if needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    • Set up online meeting as requested by supervisor or SMT.
    • Provide other administrative support to supervisor or SMT.
    • Build good relationships with internal team for all levels and with partners.
    • Willing to learn new things and work extra hours when needed.
    • Perform other relevant duties as required by direct supervisor or SMTs.

        QUALIFICATION:

        • Cambodian National
        • Bachelor’s Degree in English and/or Khmer literature, health communications or other related field with 3 year-working experience
        • Excellent English and Khmer fluency for both speaking and writing.

          EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

          • Experience working with NGO and the health sector would be an advantage.
          • Excellent writing skills and clear concise communication skills in English and Khmer.
          • Good organizational skills.
          • Good administration management skills.
          • Good interpersonal skills.
          • Ability to work well with all levels of team and partners.
          • Ability to work independently and show self-initiative,
          • Strong planning, organizational and scheduling skills
          • Computer literate with skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet.
          • Willing to learn new things and work extra hours when needed.
