We are looking for a talented individual to join the team in IWMI Ghana as Senior Research Officer to provide support in social science research and development activities on REACH-Social Transformation Research project, ClimBer, Nature+, and Regional Integrated Initiatives of One CGIAR, in the Ghana office.

Duties and Responsibilities

REACH-STR project

Conduct field data collection, secondary data collection, literature synthesis, and assist in field data analysis; Publish articles and briefs, based on existing project data, with a specific focus on the Gender and Climate Resilience Work Streams of the REACH-STR project.

ClimBer - Governance for Resilience Work Package

Assist with literature reviews and collation of secondary data, scoping studies and identification/mapping out of key stakeholders and literature synthesis in relation to transformative adaptation and multiscale governance issues in Senegal; Support the profiling of climate risk systems and identify risks, mitigation and adaptation solutions across different scales; Assist with stakeholder analysis and mapping at different governance scales within the context of transformative climate adaptation. Conduct political economy analysis on nature-based resources within the context of circular economy in Ghana; Support the identification of circular economy business models for different rural typologies and contribute to the implementation of solutions.

Nature+ Initiative

Conduct political economy analysis on nature-based resources within the context of circular economy in Ghana; Support the identification of circular economy business models for different rural typologies and contribute to the implementation of solutions.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following:

Post Graduate degree (Master of Philosophy) in Human Geography, Sociology, Development Economics, or a closely related field relevant to Water Resources Management, Agricultural Development and Agricultural Innovation Systems Economics, Political Economy analysis and Development Studies. Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, with at least 1 year of experience in carrying out social research studies and political economy analyses or similar types of policy analysis for national governments and/or bilateral and multilateral donors. Experience in current academic and policy debates on climate and environmental governance, and rural livelihoods. Skills in framing social science research designs and conceptual understanding within an interdisciplinary context, to design and conduct field research activities across climate resilience and governance. Expertise in designing, facilitating, and managing participatory action research processes. Proven experience in mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative), but with more inclination to using qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo or/and ATLAS.ti. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional and multicultural environment. Possess an open mindset and the ability to learn. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and French will be added advantage).

Desirable

Familiarity with current academic and policy debates particularly in social transformation processes, circular economy and nature-based resources. Knowledge on integrating views of different stakeholders at multiple levels to inform policy and programming decisions and activities. Experience drafting user-friendly knowledge products such as decision toolkits, business model guides or methodologies, and policy papers. A record of peer-reviewed publications in academic journals. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, including database management and PowerPoint presentations.

This is a nationally recruited position and only candidates who are eligible to work in Ghana will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
