Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organization registered in Berlin. Democracy Reporting International promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions world-wide.

DRI is currently recruiting a Senior Pluralism and Human Rights Expert to support activities under

the European Union funded project “Promoting Peaceful Myanmar through Culture of Inclusive Dialogue”.This project aims at providing technical support to various high-level stakeholders on pluralism, freedom of religion and rights of vulnerable groups in Myanmar, and to spark an informed policy dialogue among them.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Pluralism and Human Rights expert will work with DRI to design and conduct a series of activities that will explore different aspects of pluralism, freedom of religion, and rights of minority and vulnerable groups referring to international human rights instruments and comparative constitutional law. DRI have previously organized trainings, roundtable discussions focusing on various aspect of democratic governance currently discussed in Myanmar peace negotiations such as decentralization, federalism, sub-state constitutions, sequencing and linkages between peace process and constitutional reform. The Senior Pluralism and Human Rights expert will work with the DRI Country Representative, Programme Coordinator, and project Advisor to design trainings and discussions relevant to the political context, participate in the events as resource person, and provide comparative insight to leading politicians, political activists, student leaders, communities leaders, civil society organizations and other relevant stakeholders.

Tasks

The Senior Pluralism and Human Rights expert will be expected to:

· Collaborate with the DRI Myanmar Country Representative and Country office team on the design and development of the pluralism online training activities

· Provide technical advice and comparative inputs to participants including politicians, political activists, opinion leader of communities, student leaders and relevant national stakeholders

· Act as a resource person at discussion and other relevant events, designing and facilitating sessions as required

· Suggest a list of handouts and materials for the event, and provide a draft outline for pluralism training program

Timeframe

The mission is scheduled from 10th February 2022 to 2nd April 2022.

Location and/or Travel Plan:

As the Pluralism trainings program is online (ZOOM) ones, the Senior Pluralism and Human Rights Expert do not need to travel to Myanmar, but need to have the internet access on the training’ time.
